What this tool does

This guide helps parents who are using the Lidcombe Programme at home work out what to do next with their child's stuttering. It gives you a plain summary based on how your child is speaking at the moment, how practice sessions are going, and what stage you have reached.

It is not a replacement for your speech and language therapist. Think of it as a second pair of eyes between appointments, helping you spot what to focus on.

When to use it

It is aimed at parents of young children, usually under six, who have been started on the Lidcombe Programme by an NHS or private speech and language therapist. You might use it if you are unsure how to rate severity on a given day, if your daily practice feels stuck, or if you are wondering whether your child might be ready to move from Stage 1 to Stage 2.

It is also useful if you have been referred and want to understand what the programme involves before your first session, so you know what to expect from the verbal contingencies, the severity ratings and the structured talking time at home.

How it works

You answer a short set of questions about your child's age, how long you have been on the programme, recent severity ratings and how practice sessions are going. The tool then gives you a short written summary with practical suggestions, points to raise with your therapist, and any signs that might need a closer look. Nothing you enter is saved or shared, and you can run it as often as you like.
